WHO WE ARE
Hi! We’re the family behind TRACE Wheatland Construction & Design Inc., and we’re proud to call Strathmore, Alberta home. As long-time residents, we’ve spent the past 19 years raising our family here - and now, we’re excited to introduce our family-run business to the community we know and love.
With more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry, we started TRACE to bring our family’s combined expertise back to the community we call home. After many years working in Calgary’s commercial sector (and taking on residential projects along the way) we shifted our focus to Strathmore, where we saw the value in working directly with homeowners in a place that means so much to us.
Together, we offer a well-rounded approach that blends technical knowledge, creative design, and practical on-site experience. Our goal is simple: to help homeowners navigate the building or renovation process with confidence, clarity, and care.
Strathmore has shaped so much of our family’s story, and we’re proud to give back by creating lasting, well-crafted spaces designed specifically for the people who call them home.
Our Core Message
At TRACE Wheatland Construction & Design Inc., we help people shape homes that feel functional and lasting, inside and out. As a family-run business with over 30 years of experience in construction, we offer residential design, home renovation/project management, general contracting, and consulting. With a focus on clear communication, thoughtful decisions, quality work, and integrity.
The name "Trace" reflects what matters to us most: the legacy built through strong relationships, the care behind every detail, and the personal marks we leave behind in the spaces we help create. Whether it's a minor or full-scale transformation, we approach every project with the same level of care and commitment.
Greg Zaugg is responsible for project administration, budget and schedule management, and serves as the primary project leader during construction at TRACE. With a solid understanding of all scopes of work, he acts as the liaison between clients, consultants, trades, and suppliers - ensuring quality control, clear communication, and client satisfaction every step of the way. Greg’s experience spans estimating, project management, pre-construction planning, and subcontractor coordination. His approach is rooted in teamwork: engaging all stakeholders as collaborative partners to support a smooth, positive project experience.
Greg holds a Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (with a Business Administration minor), is a LEED® Accredited Professional, and has completed a wide range of industry certifications in construction safety, project delivery, and building systems.
Kayley Zaugg brings years of experience in operations and team coordination to her role at TRACE. With a practical, hands-on approach and a strong eye for detail, she helps keep our day-to-day operations running smoothly.
Kayley’s background in leading teams and streamlining processes makes her an essential part of ensuring our projects stay organized and on track. Her calm presence, problem-solving mindset, and commitment to doing things right reflect the values we hold as a family business.
Makenzie Zaugg holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Studies with a Minor in Architectural Studies from the University of Calgary. With a background rooted in both design and how people interact with the spaces around them, she brings a thoughtful, client-focused approach to every project.
As Lead Designer at TRACE, Makenzie oversees the creative direction of each project - from initial concepts and layout planning to material selection and interior detailing. Her training includes Revit and other design software, along with hands-on experience in architectural design. What motivates her most is the opportunity to create homes that feel functional, personal, and beautiful; spaces that people genuinely love to live in.
